i can't combine preloaders with the animation itself. I mean , i don't know on which layer the preloader should be made.

Okay I have problem with my text bar that I made with this tutorial. Do I literally put "Number" under loading or is there something else I need? When I test the video it does not show the progress that was loaded!

As a side note; The slide you want to look at is page 4 of the first section of the tutorial.

It shouldn't matter what you put in the box, it's controlled by the script; the important thing is to make sure the instance name (look in the properties box) is set to 'LoadedText' if the instance name is set correctly then the problem will be in one of the scripts somewhere, the best thing you can do is go over the tutorial again and make sure all the scripts are exactly the same as the scripts in the tutorial; if your still having trouble after that you can send me the FLA and ill have a poke round for you and tell you where your slipping up :)

Good luck x

Very cool. I've been trying to learn ActionScript 2.0 like a second language, but alas, I keep having to stop due to other things, drawings things, animations, school things....I found that writing out my script was a lot of fun and I wanted to be able to just do it without having to refer to other people to do simple things... Eventually I get the hang of it I'm sure. Glad I found your thingers!

That's what I'm talking about, I had the same motivations when I started out! If you need any help or want the code behind anything on my page to pick apart just note me; its been years since I did any flash :C (Hence the atrocious spelling).

Hey thanks! Yeah, I just finished up a basic rigging/morphing target tutorial for a friend of mind to help him with some of his 3D work and I decided to put it all together in Flash to make it nice and easy to follow... But I found myself struggling again with simple movie clip manipulation through the timeline with my scripting...

And also learned that I do not really like 3.0 much.

I may upload it here on dA if he doesn't pop online to get it from me.

But I'll have to take you up on your offer. I also have to check out Linda.com. I was given a year subscription from Full Sail University and I haven't really had the time to really dive in... and I'm nearly halfway done!

Aye man, well your more than welcome :) Video tutorials are worth their weight in gold so I would defiantly jump into that.

Is that Maya or 3DSMax rigging? If you upload it link me, I do a bit of 3D as a hobby but I can only really do mechanical rigging so it would be nice to see how you do it :P

As far as AS2.0 vs As3.0 Go, if you want to learn any other languages apart form Actionscript, I would put the time into 3.0; its a nightmare but it behaves more like Java/c#/c++ than 2.0 (having said that I would not recommend AS3.0 as a first language), As2.0 is much more beginner-friendly as the compiler isn't as anal.

PS: I just looked at the date on this tutorial, its 2007!! its like 5 years old!!
